As I was putting the link to my last post on facebook, I noticed that my youngest son had posted our home number in the text of his latest post. He is looking for X-Box games and left the number for people to call him if they had any to get rid of.
I have talked to this child about his privacy settings before now. I log onto his account periodically to insure that his content and that of others who post on his wall is appropriate. He has participated in yearly Boy Scout sponsored safety trainings that now include social media precautions.
What else can a parent do? As a parent you can be convinced your child understands what you teach and confident that he or she will make safe choice, but in the end it is a crap shoot. He is off of FB for the next week. We’ll see if that teaches him anything.
